Hey there. For the last few years, this sub has been fairly low-maintenance, with the only real issue worth moderating being rampant spambots. I’ve had to do relatively little myself to manage the problem, leaving things up to both built-in automod and /u/HSpamSlayer.
However, it’s recently come to my attention (thanks to a large volume of DMs and modmails about seemingly arbitrary bans) that a majority of the users getting banned via these bots haven’t actually done anything wrong. Many human users are getting hit simply for having posted on subs that, regardless of past involvement in spam, are largely fine now, or seem to be added to a universal blocklist simply for being taboo (hell, you can get banned simply for having commented on /r/femboys or /r/femboyhentai of all places). Some bans aren’t even given any justification, the users are just hit arbitrarily. To top it all off, relatively little actual spam is even being posted anymore, and what does get posted often gets through the filters and is instead hit by user reports quickly. If you’ve been hit by these bullshit automod bans, I am very, very sorry, and will be going through the banned user list and restoring your account’s access. It will take a while due to the sheer volume, but I’ll eventually get to you.
All of this considered, as the sole human mod here, I’m making a big change. I’ve decided to disable the auto-moderation here and handle everything manually. I will look into setting up different automod features here if the spam gets too annoying to handle on a daily basis, but as-is, I don’t think any of these measures are necessary, and are hurting users far more than they’re helping. Going forwards, please use the report feature for suspicious/spam posts, as moderation is now manual.
As an aside — this isn’t exactly the kind of sub that needs much in the way of rules outside of “don’t spam or post phishing links” but if there’s any other issues you think I need to address, please let me know in the comments under this post. I know there’s a significant number of users that want an outright ban on AI-generated images, which I’m sympathetic towards (I’m not against AI for moralistic reasons, but I consider AI porn very low-quality and think it should probably be quarantined to its own spaces). I’ll probably put up another post about this in the next few days if there isn’t much of a response here, but I’d love to hear from everyone first.
