I had been putting this off for years because one, I despise the isekai genre, and two, anything mainstream usually turns out to be bad.
But I’m glad I gave this a chance. The show manages to remain interesting start to end. The world building is gradual and not forced. The characters are well written (not implying all of them are likeable), the first opening is quite nice, the fights can be interesting, there is no forced romance every 10 minutes. I also appreciate that it breaks the Shounen mold where the hero always wins. My only complaints are the protagonist’s cactus like personality, and how they keep giving him free power ups.
Is it a top 10 anime? No! Is it a good watch? Sure. One of the best isekai out there. Would recommend.
