I’m looking for an anime. It’s either from the 80s, 90s, or 2000s, and it was English dubbed. All I can remember is that in the first episode, cadets were gathered to honor a student with the best scores for piloting a mech. However, the student was reluctant to attend the gathering and was being forced to show up. I think the cadets were related to someone in the military or government. Before they showed up, there was a scene where people were attaching bombs to mechs. When the cadets were boarding the mechs, they blew up.
