Spring 2023 – My First Impressions (Part 02)

We just made it through the big package week so in this occasion I will group the titles I will talk about in personal categories:

**CUTE \[\] \[DOING\] \[\].** Easiest to go through as these titles will mostly remain the same throughout the season. Any possible development (if there is at all) will be probably at the end where nothing would come from it. Here we have

* **Alice Gear Aegis Expansion:** *Cute girls fighting aliens in armor suits.* The action may be entertaining, but I’m certain they will resort to the power of \[X\].
* **Kizuna no Allele:** *Cute girls singing cute songs on virtual reality.* Because it’s technically the first of its type (that I’m aware of) it will likely stick to the idol show formula. Thus I don’t feel that the experience is going to be significantly different.
* **Opus Colors:** *Cute boys crafting virtual portraits.* It looks to me that it will have a sports show type of progression. Wait for some melodramatic speeches and possible yaoibait (I expect to be wrong in this last thing).
* **Kawaisugi Crisis:** *Cute animals saving the planet from an alien invasion with the power of cuteness.*
* Next we have cute girls working in a maid café, so really it depends if you go more for traditional harem (**Megami no Cafe Terrace**) or for yuri-stage perfomance (**Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto Desu!**). At least the female lead of the latter has more room for development than any of the girls of the former.
* **World Dai Star:** *Cute girls doing theater performances.* This show will be as good as the reaches of their acting.
* **Tokyo Mew Mew New 2nd season.** *Cute magical girls fighting stupid aliens.* I still prefer the 2002 version.

I pick World Dai Star as the best of this group.

**REGULAR SLICE OF LIFE.** Where you have to roll the dice for something to take rise.

* **Skip to Loafer:** Most than we can expect is some romance at the end. It already looks like it will go for the light route.
* **Edomae Elf:** While technically a reverse isekai since the elf comes from another world, as the show takes place in modern Japan it’s placed here. I mean, unless some sort of supernatural thing happens, it will more likely remain light.

Flip a coin, and the Edomae Elf side is the one you’ll get.

**ROMANCE:** Not to be mistaken with romcoms.

* **Tonikaku Kawaii 2nd season.** 2 things we should take from Nasa: Get multiple side hustles after finishing high-school and make sure you save, invest and live by yourself. (And if you happen to get married, be all lovey-dovey with your wife and be able to throw romantic punchlines right off).
* **Otonari ni Ginga:** Traditional stages or a relationship that would actually go somewhere with fairy tale spice.

Needless to say that I’m picking Tonikaku Kawaii.

**SPORTS.** Only one this week, and two in the entire season.

* **Birdie Wing: Golf Girls Story 2nd season.** The moment the female leads became teammates, the show took a dip for me. Also I hope that they don’t resort to Eve having to come in clutch every time a matchup goes down the line.

**FANTASY, ADVENTURE & COMEDY**

* **Dr. Stone: New World.** This time it made honor of its nickname by having a full minecraft-looking scene. I think there’s nothing else to say about this season in terms of characters, plot or the SCIENCEEEE, that hasn’t been already stated in reviews and forums of the previous seasons.
* **Mahou Tsukai no Yome 2nd season:** Get ready for extra dose of misery-p, lazy victimization and plot-armor in a magical school.
* **Yuusha ga Shinda!.** Unfortunately it seems that non-MC heroes are destined to be either punching bags or sacrifices to the service of the MC, or for making the MC take action.
* **Rokudou no Onna-tachi.** What would a low-will MC that suffers bullying need to improve? Get a seal that will make all bad girls to fall for him and defend him from everyone else. Lazy power fantasy as usual.
* **Mashle.** It only took a single episode to construct a typical pretense. I mean:
* *In a world where magic is common place, there’s a boy in a forest who can’t use it, but can render useless others’ magic used against him and is so strong that it can take down his enemies with a single hit.*
* **Kimetsu no Yaiba: Katanakaji no Sato Hen:** If you know (the formula) you know (the way this will go).

**Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers:** Otaku rollercoaster in all its glory.

**Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Bakuen o!.** While the main work is an isekai, I placed this one here since this one focuses on Megumin before joining Kazuma. Easily takes the top spot of this category since Megumim is the undisputable charisma queen of the season.

**ISEKAIS.**

**Isekai de Cheat Skill o Te ni Shita Ore wa, Genjitsu Sekai o mo Musou Suru: Level Up wa Jinsei o Kaeta.** What would a low-will MC that suffers bullying need…. ? Wait, I think I’m going to repeat myself here. But seriously, this one would be the best of the season if you take away the power fantasy.

**Isekai One Turn Kill Nee-san. Ane Douhan no Isekai Seikatsu Hajimemashita.** Does anyone remember the Isekai of the guy and his mother where the mother is the broken one? Well, change the mother for a sister, who wants to do him, and here you go.

**Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudou.** Borderline h fanservice and insane society. Also why are they being “recluded” in a village if the kingdom was to going to kill them anyways?

**Isekai Shoukan wa Nidome Desu.** The tale of the other world hero re-meeting with his harem.

**Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear Punch!.** More of the same. Didn’t think it will get a second season.

**Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni. 2nd season.** Yeah, I’m picking this one.
