In the first episode she tells Asahi that after he was hit by the car he was taken to the hospital and was in a coma.
After watching the ending I think that was a lie. I think he died and Maya was so distraught over losing her precious brother that she killed herself. She lied because she doesn’t want to burden her brother with the knowledge that his death caused her so much pain that she took her own life.
